Funky Getaways

CR & K DAISY DESIGNS | KNIT CAMP 2010

CR & K Daisy Designs is located in Fairy Meadow on the lovely south coast of Sydney Australia and it's owned and run by three of the nicest ladies Rae | Chris | and Kerry. For the last three years they have organized a fun filled weekend for the knitters in their local area and slowly but surely knitters from Canberra and Sydney have also snuck in for the fun.

On the Friday morning I kissed my big and little man goodbye jumped in the car and drove down the coast with two fellow knitters Lee and Melissa. We took the very scenic coastal road down and stopped at Austimere Beach at our regular pitt stop long lunch at the Austbeach Cafe, right across from the beach where we had a lovely front row view of the beach on a glorious Sydney day.

The camp is held at Mt Keira Scout Camp on the Anzac weekend over two nights. The facilities are quite adequate however Melissa and I decided to stay overnight in a hotel in Wollongong. We ate our meals at the camp and enjoyed the fun that was to be had but at night we snuck away for a good nights sleep and arrived back for breakfast in the morning.

On arrival we got sidetracked by the yarn shop that the ladies had set up to tempt us.

...and some followed me home.

The cabin where all the knitting | dying | chatting | and laughter was done.

The beautiful view in front of the cabin overlooking the Wollongong coastline.

| yarn - bendigo luxury | colourway - bluestone | weight - 8ply | amount - 100g |

On the Saturday morning we did some dying, however this year I only dyed one skien of yarn which I've named Bluestone | I love the colours together.

Later in the day Gemma, Melissa and I went for a walk up a winding path to the Bush Chapel, that is nestled in the bush near the camp site | what a pretty spot to get married. Gemma and Melissa were willing participants for the day at the alter.

On the Saturday night there was a fancy dress night where the theme was 'Op Shop Chic' combined with a trivia night, and as luck would have it I was on the loosing team. Not all was lost though as the loosing team got a few balls of yarn given to them so I managed to score five lux balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in cream which I plan to dye.

| Sunday morning I had my first go at spinning |

I have been wanting to learn how to use a drop spindle for ages and as luck would have it Gemma had hers on hand with some lovely fiber to donate for her keen participant. So, with all my determination and her skills as a spinner she got me going and now I'm afraid the new obsession begins.

| my first ever spin - since arriving home I've been doing some research and a new spindle won't be too far away |

After lunch and yet more knitting the camp for 2010 was over. Melissa | Gemma | Lee | and I headed home back down the coastal road and made one last pitt stop at the Austimere Cafe for some coffee | cake and ice cream before continuing home for some recovery sleep.

We had such a great time | until next year - I'm so there !

  1. Great photos, Margarita. I love the black and white Heirloom Bliss you bought - I agree it would make a perfect slouchy hat.

I can only begin to imagine the wonderful, surprising and original things you'll produce once you start spinning. Just remember that I knew you before you started and have claims on some of your output!
